Purchasing and Freight Coordinator

The Position: 

They’re looking for a Purchasing professional who also has strong experience in Freight/Shipping to assist the team based in Scotland that covers EMEA. The position offers the successful candidate:

  • Order non-inventory goods against purchase requisitions
  • Follow up outstanding orders
  • Establish and maintain supplier relationships
  • Negotiate cost and terms and conditions with suppliers
  • Monitor and report on supplier performance
  • Continually investigate alternate components and sources
  • Introduce first class local and overseas sources of supply for piece parts and critical long lead time items
  • Implement cost improvements to reduce relative material spend
  • Communicate supply issues with internal customers and offer alternative items or suppliers
  • Coordinating the Shipping of Spare parts to customers across the globe
  • Ensuring the Freight forwarders selected are competitive on pricing and terms
  • Ensuring the correct paperwork is completed and included in the order for export
  • Adhere to company manufacturing standards
  • Liaise with the Purchasing Manager, Planners, Manufacturing, Engineering and all other staff in the INT group in relation to purchasing requests, keeping them informed on technical details, price and availability
  • Liaise with the international procurement group on all matters relating to the development of the team approach to procurement worldwide
  • Liaise with the Quality and Safety Officers on all matter concerning health, safety and quality
  • Liaise with the Business Team Managers on all other matters relative to their sphere of operations


  • Purchasing experience in a medium size organisation 
  • MCIPS desired but not essential
  • Manufacturing environment experience
  • Technical background including mechanical and electrical products and specifications
  • Key skills including – Problem solving, Negotiation skills, Computer literacy (e.g. SAP, Windows, Word, Excel and access) and Time Management
  • Additional languages would be an added bonus

The Location: 

The role will be based in Livingston, West Lothian with excellent links to both the M8 and M9 motorways and excellent rail links with both Edinburgh and Glasgow.
